Karachi: Waseem Akhtar, MQM Leader, has taken oath as Mayor of Karachi at the ceremony in Karachi’s Polo Ground.

Waseem Ahtar was shifted to the site of ceremony, from the central jail, where he was to take oath as the Mayor of Karachi.

Addressing a huge crowd of people following the oath-taking ceremony Waseem Akhtar thanked the people of Karachi, party workers, PML-N, PTI and other political parties for electing and supporting him for the post of the city’s new mayor.

After taking oath, Waseem Akhtar began his address by raising the slogan, “Long live Muttahida, Long live Bhutto and Long live Imran Khan.”

Akhtar exchanged his views with the audience that all political parties need to solve the problems of Karachi together dedicatedly.

“It is my request to all political leaders and their parties to work collectively for the development of Karachi because Sindh can only progress if Karachi progresses,” said Akhtar.

He said even though he wanted to work for the betterment of Karachi along with other political parties but was unable to do due to his imprisonment on false charges.

After addressing the oath-taking ceremony, Waseem Akhtar on the insistence of the media addressed journalists at the Gulshan-e-Jinnah where he made it clear that it is possible to make a strategy in jail as well as an office. He stressed that he does not have differences with anyone and added that he will visit the local government minister.

Akhtar told journalists that he would support MQM-Pakistan under the supervision of Dr. Farooq Sattar. 

He ended his media talk raising slogans for the prosperity of Karachi, Sindh and Pakistan.
