ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has served a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan over holding a public meeting in Taxila.
According to the notice issued by Returning Officer, Imran Khan had violated the electoral code of conduct.
The election commission has asked the Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman to explain as to why he staged a public meeting in the constituency despite being prohibited by the election commission to do so.
ECP had restrained Khan from holding rallies and demonstration in Taxila ahead of the by-election in PP-7 (Taxila) under election rules.
The ECP said that the elected representatives were not allowed to participate in a rally under the election rules.
The vote for by-election in PP-7 Taxila will be held on this Monday. The seat fell vacant following the death of PTI Punjab Assembly member Muhammad Siddique Khan.
