SUNDAY TIMES KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar and other judges on Wednesday reached the drought hit region of Thar for a visit, ARY News reported.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan and Justice Faisal Arab of Supreme Court, the Chief Justice Sindh High Court and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah were also accompanied with the chief justice.
The honorable judges will inspect the steps taken by the Government of Sindh to prevent deaths of children in the desert region due to undernourishment and the diseases caused by the menace.
The authorities have become active in the area to present a rosy image of the impoverished desert facing negligence of the government on the local as well as at the provincial level.
According to reports, the dilapidated building of Civil Hospital Mithi has been renovated. The compound wall of the hospital premises and the interior have been painted.
Moreover, required equipment have been installed at the children’s ward and at the operation theatres.
A special team of doctors has been constituted to reply to the probable questions of the chief justice, sources said.
It is to be mentioned here that Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar hearing a suo moto case about deaths of children in Thar due to malnourishment and related diseases.
Chief Justice Nisar on December 07, had announced to visit Thar on Dec. 12. The top judge while ordering for arrangement of his visit of the area, had directed the government he should not be taken only to the ‘good areas’ of the region.
He directed the government to tackle the problems of Thar as the region facing serious problems related to water and food.
