SUNDAY TIMES LAHORE: An accountability court here on Wednesday extended the transit remand of leader of the opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif till the conclusion of the current session of the lower house of Parliament.
The accountability judge directed the jail authorities to inform the court as and when the PML-N president returns from Islamabad after the NA session.
A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) lawyer informed that Mr Sharif is in Islamabad to attend the NA session following issuance of his production orders by Speaker Asad Qaiser and that he will stay in the capital until the conclusion of the session.
Earlier, the court had granted one-day transit remand of the PML-N president. Upon expiry of the remand, the police approached the court today for an extension.
The capital administration Monday declared the house of the opposition leader in the Ministers’ Enclave a sub-jail to detain Shehbaz Sharif during his stay in Islamabad.
“In exercise of powers vested in under Section 541 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1860 read with Section 3 of the Prison Act 1894 and all other powers enabling in this behalf vide Ministry of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs notification issued in pursuance of Article 2 of Islamabad Capital Territory Administration Order 1980 and a request of Government of Punjab, the chief commissioner Islamabad is pleased to declare the premises of House No 26 Ministers’ Enclave as a sub-jail for keeping Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif, under trial prisoner in NAB case, from Monday Dec 10 and till the conclusion of this session(s) of National Assembly,” read a notification issued by the capital administration.
