ISLAMABAD: Four officials of Customs Intelligence, including a driver, died in a car accident while chasing smugglers on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway on Wednesday, Express News reported.
Customs officials were chasing a group of smugglers in a vehicle when the driver lost control of the convoy due to speeding along the M-1 motorway near Bahtar interchange.
As a result of the accident, three officials and the driver died on the spot. The customs officials have been identified as Muhammad Jamil, Muhammad Shakil, Ejaz Ahmed and Amir Hanif.
Further, an inspector who sustained injuries in the accident was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for immediate treatment.
In May, an Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police officer died in a road accident in Gujranwala. Malik Sultan, an assistant sub-inspector at Nar Kotli Police Station was in Gujranwala to enquire about the health of his relative.
He was travelling on a motorbike along with a relative when they were hit by a speeding bus near a u-turn, killing him on the spot.
