ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan forbade Imran Khan from taking part in election rally in Taxila PP-7.
According to a notification by the returning officer, a parliamentarian cannot take part in an election campaign.
Imran Khan was expected to attend PTI candidate Umar Siddiq Khan’s rally on Friday.
The ECP has issued notice in this regard. The orders were issued by returning officer in PP-7.
The elected representatives are not allowed to participate in rally as per ECP rules, The Election Commission said.
Polling will be held at PP-7 on September 26. The seat was left vacant after the death of Siddiq Khan.
PTI writes ECP a letter
The deputy secretary general PTI wrote a letter to the chief election commissioner that measures to sabotage the Raiwand March are being taken by the government.
He said that peaceful protest is a constitutional right.
The letter asked the EC to take legal action against those trying to sabotage the march.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) constituted a larger bench for hearing of a petition seeking a court order against PTI march towards Raiwind.
The bench headed by Justice Shahid Hameed Dar will hear the petitions against the protest. Justice Anwarul Haq and Justice Mohammad Qasim Khan will be other members of the bench.
The bench will resume hearing of the petitions next week.
