KARACHI: Mutahidda Qaumi Movement has decided to challenge result of PS-127 by-poll results in the election tribunal and court.
According to sources, the MQM’s legal experts had a meeting today in which they decided to challenge the by-election results.
The party leaders are of the view that poll results were massively rigged, especially in villages in the constituency. They said some elements created panic in several polling stations to tamper results in their favour.
Sources said the MQM leaders have garnered some ‘evidences’ that could proof rigging in the polls.
Pakistan People’s Party candidate Ghulam Murtaza Baloch won the by-election on PS-127 against the Waseem Ahmed of the MQM.
The seat fell vacant after MQM lawmaker Ashfaq Mangi resigned and joined Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party.
The PS-127 constituency comprises city’s urban and rural areas which fall in the limits of district municipal corporations of Malir and Korangi. It includes Darsano Chhanno, Malir, Khokhrapar, Jaffer Tayyar Society, Brohi Goth, Sachhal Goth, Asu Goth, Malir Cantonment and major swathes of Gadap Town.
MQM says it enjoys huge support in urban parts of the constituency and said the violence on the polling day was targeted against their party to force voters stay indoors.
