Ijaz, who is former Lahore chief traffic officer , is facing charges of misappropriation of Rs700 million in the police funds while he was posted in Punjab, NAB said in its statement.
“More arrests to follow after Rai Ijaz’s detention in the scam”, said NAB’s spokesperson. However, the anti-graft watch, has also arrested suspended district accounts officier of Gujrat, director budget food department Lahore and others accused in the scam.
NAB Lahore, had earlier issued Ijaz’s arrest warrants; however, he had escaped when anti-graft officials had raided his house to make the arrest.
His father is also nominated in the same case whereas ten other police officials allegedly involved are already in NAB custody.
The former CTO will be handed over to a team of NAB Lahore, which is already present in Karachi.
Arrested police official belongs to former Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amjad Saleemi’s group, sources revealed.
