NEW YORK, UNITED STATES: Nawaz Sharif who is to address a session in the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, called Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staffs, and discussed the situation in the region.
The situation was tensed after the Sunday’s attack on an Indian Army camp in Kashmir, which was blamed on Pakistan by India.
A brief official statement issued by Pakistan’s Mission to the UN said that the conversation between the premier and General Raheel Sharif took place ‘at length’.
Because of war between India and held Kashmiri demonstrators the relations between Pakistan and India have been fragile for the last couple of months. The fight and protests caused more than 100 people dead and thousands injured, most of which are civilians.
At today’s UN General Assembly session PM Nawaz Sharif is to highlight the dispute in Kashmir and Pakistan’s stance on regional and international matters.
On the other hand President Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Masood Khan requested Muslim countries to stand by and support Kashmiris at this hard time.
Khan was of the view that if the international community along with Muslim countries understand the reasons why Kashmiris have been fighting for years in the region, they would be able to help them get close to their freedom.
