SUNDAY TIMES PESHAWAR :PPP’s Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari and provincial president Humayun Khan co-chaired a meeting of the party’s officials of the tribal districts in Peshawar.

The meeting in a detailed consultation reviewed the elections on 16 seats of the provincial assembly in the merged tribal districts, scheduled to be held in June this year.

The party leaders directed the district officials of the PPP to make preparations for the elections in the new provincial districts.

The election will take place for the very first time on the newly created 16 general seats of the provincial assembly (PK 100 to PK 115) in tribal districts that merged into the province with a constitutional amendment.

The merger of former FATA region has increased the strength of the provincial legislature to 115 from previous 99 seats.

A constitutional amendment [The Constitution (Thirty-First Amendment) Bill 2018] for the merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, was passed in the National Assembly on May 24, 2018.

The upper house (Senate) approved the constitutional amendment bill with majority, a day after its passage from the National Assembly.
