SUNDAY TIMES LAHORE: According to details, Advocate Azhar Siddiqui filed the petition in the LHC naming the federal government and National Assembly speaker as respondents in the case.
The petitioner argued, “Shehbaz is not fit for the position as he is facing corruption allegations,” and prayed the high court to declare Shehbaz’s PAC chairmanship as null and void.
The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz president, Shehbaz Sharif, is currently under the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He was elected unopposed as PAC chairman on December 21.
Furthermore, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser yesterday issued a production order of Mr Sharif to enable him to chair the PAC meeting which will start on Dec 28 (today) and will continue till Dec 31.
A day earlier, Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad also gave an inkling that he may approach the Supreme Court over conceding the chairmanship of PAC to Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking at a press conference, the federal minister reiterated his reservations over the decision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government to accept the name of the Opposition Leader in National Assembly for the coveted chairmanship of PAC.
