It is well known that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has stayed away from attending awards shows for a long time, and is now one of the most notable absentee since the last two decades.

Although there are various reasons thrown around that he choose not to take them seriously, it is now know that the this is due another Bollywood stalwart Shahrukh Khan, reported MissMalini.

Aamir made his film debut in 1988 with the film Qayamat se Qayamat Tak alongside Juhi Chawla and won a Filmfare Award for best debut male. In those days he was a regular at award shows and even made performances.

Apparently, Aamir was a regular at the awards scene in the beginning of his career. He was present at the Filmfare nights when Anil Kapoor won the Best Actor award for Beta in ’92 (Aamir was nominated for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandarin the same year). He was also present when SRK bagged the award for Baazigar in ’93 – the same year Aamir was nominated for Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke. But turns out, the last straw was when SRK won the Best Actor for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in ’95 and Aamir didn’t take the trophy home for Rangeela. Aamir’s act in Rangeela was appreciated by everyone but sadly, wasn’t awarded. It was after that incident that Aamir stopped attending Filmfare and popular movie awards.

It was after this that Aamir Khan refused to attend any award shows despite being nominated and has even refused to send clips of his films for consideration.

Now Aamir has never said this on record but he has been quoted as saying:

“Fact is that I have no objections to film awards per se. I just feel that if I don’t value a particular film award, then I won’t attend it either. Apart from the national award, I don’t see any other award ceremony that I should give value to. My personal experience about these award ceremonies is that I don’t trust them. I have no faith in them so I would prefer to stay away”

There are also reports that Aamir was approached for the blockbuster DDLG, but he refused to take up the project and has claimed that award shows are fixed.
