PWD BIZ NEWS ISLAMABAD:At a ceremony in the Netherlands, the International Institute for Justice (IIJE) honored Justice Jillani with the award “for his outstanding contribution to the global elevation of the principles of justice in Pakistan and the international community”.

“Judge Jillani is currently sitting Ad Hoc on the International Court of Justice in The Hague, is the former Chief Justice of Pakistan and Justice of the High Court of Lahore, among many other notable achievements,” reads a statement issued by the IIJE.

Jilani has served as the  21st Chief Justice of Pakistan from 2013 to 2014.

Born in Multan, Jilani is deemed as a progressive judge, advocating civil liberties and fundamental rights  throughout his career. He is known for authoring landmark decisions on women’s rights, honour killings, and the right to education.

His authored verdict on a suo moto decision over the protection of minorities and religious freedom after the Peshawar church attack in 2013, is widely regarded as the broadest interpretation of laws relating to religious rights in Pakistan’s history.
