Major export-oriented factories run by the captive power plants have been closed due to an unexpected gas load shedding in the metropolis, which has badly affected the supplies to the industries as well as the domestic consumers.
According a spokesman of the gas utility Sui Southern Gas, the supplies have been affected due to technical faults at gas fields.
As the winter begins, gas crises have intensified in several parts of the metropolis, causing problems for the domestic consumers as well as industrial units.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Sui Southern Gas Company has said that gas pressure has dropped due to technical faults in the fields, efforts underway to resume supply at its full capacity, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan had on December 4 promised that people would not face gas load-shedding during this winter.
“Gas is being provided to the industry continuously and subsidy will be provided on bills from October 16 till June next year,” the minister said while talking to newsmen in Lahore.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan also announced that subsidy would also be provided to fertiliser industry till March next year.
