KARACHI: Voting for the election in Karachi’s PS-127 Malir began at 8 am on Thursday morning.

After the resignation of a member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Sindh Assembly, Ashfaque Mangi, from the party the seat fell vacant.

MQM’s Waseem Ahmed and Ghulam Murtaza Baloch of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are the number one contenders in the election, while PTI’s Nadeem Memon and other candidates are also in the field.

In Sindh Assembly constituency PS-127 total 207,467 voters will exercise their right to vote in today’s by-election. The election commission has made 134 polling stations and 487 polling booths for the by-election. All polling stations in the constituency have been declared ‘extremely sensitive’ and ‘sensitive’ with regard to security.

There in an announced public holiday in the constituency to facilitate the voters.

The area is secured by the Rangers to ensure the secure election. The para-military force has been granted the powers of magistrate.
