Pakistan moved a step towards reclaiming its lost glory in Squash with a memorable win at the final of World Junior Team Squash Championship against defending champions Egypt in Poland.
Riding on victories by Israr Ahmed and Abbas Shaukat, Pakistan outclassed Egypt by 2-1 to win its 6th World team title.
Israr Ahmed took only 39 minutes to outclass his Egyptian opponent 11-9, 11-9 and 11-9 to give Pakistan a lead of one-up in the first match.
But, Ahsan Ayyaz went down fighting against Yousef Irahim 11/13, 13/11, 5/11 & 6/11 in a hard fought match which lasted for 49 minutes.
The decider was played between Pakistan’s Abbas Shaukat and Egypt’s Marwan Tarek, and Abbas displayed great form to stun Marwan Tarek with score of 11/7, 11/9 and 11/8 to script a memorable win for Pakistan.
This was Pakistan’s first win in the WSJ finals against Egypt after losing three consecutive finals to the same opponent.
Meanwhile, the senior vice president of Pakistan Squash President, AVM Razi Nawab has congratulated the national junior squash team for the landmark achievement.
“This victory is attributed to the vision of the President PSF, guidance of our Legends and above all to the dedication and hard work of the players,” he said
“Inshallah, with the prayers of the entire nation, Pakistan squash would once again achieve its rightful place,” hoped the senior vice president of PSF.
